Transitions

Transition from primary into secondary education is an important milestone in the lives of young people and their families. At Marine Academy Plymouth, we strive to provide our new students and their families with a smooth and extensive transition programme so when the first day comes, everyone involved is feeling excited and motivated rather than apprehensive about their new surroundings.

We are delighted to hear that you and your child are interested in joining us at Marine Academy Plymouth to start their exciting journey through secondary education. We hope to welcome you into our MAP community soon and support you in your upcoming transition from year 6 into year 7.

As part of the Ted Wragg multi-academy trust, our pledge to you is to do everything we can to ensure that every child has the best possible transition between Primary and Secondary schools. We will effectively share and utilise information about children from their primary schools to ensure we build the best picture of your child before they join us, so we can make every second count. Joining g Marine Academy means being part of our community as early as possible and we will provide every child with opportunities to excel before they start in Year 7 including:

  • Giving each child a book to cultivate a love of reading.

  • Providing an introduction to and early access to SPARX Maths

  • Setting a simple writing task from student to tutor – to show their ‘best’ first attempt at work.

  • Providing all students with factual information before they start the transition in the form of our transition booklet and scholar’s guide.
