Electives

Every student in Years 7, 8 and 9 takes an elective. It sits on the timetable, it runs for six 100-minute sessions, and it’s one of the parts of the week students look forward to most.

The offer is deliberately broad. Students might be cooking their way around the world in Taste the World, learning to climb, shooting arrows on the archery range, working towards a dance or cheer showcase, playing in an ensemble, mastering their first five chess openings, solving their way out of our immersive classroom, or earning their football officiating badge on the pitch.

Every elective ends in a MAP Award — our own, earned here, with five clear criteria built around Aim High, Be Kind and Don’t Give Up. Students need to attend all six sessions to secure it, and most cycles finish with a showcase of what they’ve learnt.

The booklet for each year group explains every elective, its award and what students need to do to earn it. Choices are made in tutor time, so it’s worth a conversation at home first — students pick a first, second and third choice.
