New Build
This is a very exciting time for us all – MAP is about to begin a whole new building project, which will see a brand new addition to our skyline for the next 50+ years.
The building project at Marine Academy Plymouth will see a £10 million investment in the St Budeaux community and we need to make it really special. It’s an investment in our children and it’s a signal that the future for all our children is special, will be very different and will enable every one of our children, now and in the future, to move onwards to an adult life full of promise because their education matters because they have been part of the Marine Academy/Plymouth University commitment to the city and, most importantly, because they have the right to succeed.
The whole building project is based on the absolute belief that our children matter and that they deserve a wonderful environment in which to learn, grow and develop. The Lead Sponsor, Plymouth University, is committed to the ongoing generations of St Budeaux and north west Plymouth having the very best and Plymouth University is determined that MAP will be one of the very best schools in Plymouth and in the region as a whole.
The new building will face the sea, reflect the best of Plymouth and the promise of the region and allow children from the age of 0 – 19 to focus on their education and development on one campus. The new primary school will fill the gap between the Shining Stars Nursery and the 11- 19 secondary sector: MAP wants to be a Hub on the Hill, open to the whole community, offering first class theatre, sport, dance, technology and adult learning facilities.
There will be a hair salon, dining areas for senior citizens, meeting rooms for community groups and anything else that our community decides it needs to do in what will be a wonderful resource, central to us all.
Here we are giving you sight of our architects’ drawings. Construction begins on July 2nd 2012 and the ribbon will be cut to open the new building in September 2013; it will be a very tight exercise and everyone, constructors, teaching staff, support staff and students will all be working hard over that year to make the best of difficult circumstances as we move around the necessary building procedures. But it will be worth it!
At the end of that year, we will be in all new facilities and all that will be left to do will be the landscaping...
