The Academy has a strict uniform policy; the students worked on the choices available and finally it was they who chose their uniform and they chose it because they want to be perceived as serious and professional. We believe that our students should wear our uniform with pride and show themselves as the best they can possibly be.
Please read the information carefully and understand that students must present themselves, at all times, in the best possible way.
Please ensure all items are clearly labelled with the student's name.
The Academy uniform must be worn at all times – there are no exceptions, unless a student is given special permission for a particular activity, such as an off-site visit.
Wearing decorative jewellery is unsafe and inappropriate in a modern, active Academy environment. Students may wear one small finger ring, one pair of small ear studs, and one watch only. Any visible piercings, such as nose studs or eyebrow bolts are not acceptable, nor is tape over such piercings.
High fashion hair styles including shaving or shaved patterns and colours are not acceptable for any student. Make-up should be kept to a minimum.
There have been lots of rumours about uniform, so Mrs Mathieson has offered this extra information to help make the Academy's uniform position clearer... Shoes - plain black leather 'dolly' shoes without any decoration are perfectly acceptable. Canvas dolly shoes are not acceptable, nor any shoes which are open, i.e. flip flops, mules or backless sandals. Tights - can be opaque black in the winter or natural in the summer if so wished. Trainers - as stated on the uniform list, should not be worn as part of the everyday uniform, not even if they are black. Sports trainers can be worn for Sports and Activities - there is no requirement for these to be plain white but they must not have black soles as these mark the gym floor surface. School skirts - must not be tight and must be a decent length. Bags - there has never been a stipulation that bags must be all black - that would be very difficult to find. However, what is stipulated is that students should not have fashion handbags; that all students should carry a formal school bag that is safe for carrying books and folders. Please note that the Academy reserves the right to make the final decision as to the appropriateness of dress, jewellery, make-up and hairstyle.
