Houses
The House System
Marine Academy Plymouth provides all students the opportunity to play an active part in the Academy House System. The House System is designed to encourage students to extend their learning in a range of curriculum areas including drama, sport, art, science, and technology.
Students will also develop a sense of community and responsibility within their Houses.
Students remain members of their Houses throughout their time at Marine Academy Plymouth.
Each House is led by a member of the Senior Leadership Team who is responsible for leading his or her students to success in a wide range of House competitions. Heads of Houses also deliver assemblies to inform, inspire and celebrate achievement.
The House competition culminates with an end of year celebration assembly during which trophies and certificates are awarded to individuals and teams who have shown outstanding levels of effort and achievement throughout the year.
Vertical Tutoring
Vertical tutoring is a system of organising students into tutor groups that places their academic and pastoral care at the heart of everything we do at Marine Academy Plymouth. Students are in tutor groups and each tutor group has a mixture of students from each year group, three or four from each year.
This system allows the form tutor to know every student well and allows us to mentor and monitor the development of each student. Vertical Tutoring promotes equal opportunities for all students, enhanced student voice and student leadership, and encourages tolerance, empathy and team working, it also fosters good citizenship.
