We will maintain a governance structure that is fit for purpose, that can drive continued improvement, and be inclusive so as to embrace the students, parents, Academy staff and the local community.
The Academy Trust has 13 representatives with the majority nominated by the lead sponsor. The University of Plymouth brings its strong record in higher education and research including its central role supporting the marine sciences as well as its outreach work with Plymouth schools. Each of the two co-sponsors have nominated three representatives who are well placed to promote a strong drive for higher standards through innovation in teaching and learning and in management and organisation. The exact composition was determined through consultation during feasibility.
Marine Academy Plymouth has sought representatives with the right knowledge, skills and expertise particularly in the fields of ICT and the marine sciences. Contact with local marine related businesses has been prioritised to strengthen the work and career related aspects of the Academy but also to enrich the specialist curriculum offer. All representatives are expected to demonstrate a high level of involvement and are passionate about narrowing gaps in educational achievement by contributing to creating the right ‘learning mindset’ in the Academy.
